Person-Centered Therapy is based on the belief that the client is the expert of their own lives, and their needs and motivation are what guide their therapeutic experience. The therapist provides empathy, authenticity, and uncondtional positive regard to faciliate growth and change in support of the client’s identified goals.
Also known as CBT, this approach to therapy provides clients with actionable items that encourage change in their thought process and patterns. Therapist and client work together to identify distorted thoughts and behaviors, and practice alternative coping skills to help break the cycle.
DBT focuses on the idea that two things can be true at the same time and encourages clients to refrain from thinking about things in extremes. Instead, DBT utilizes mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness to help clients improve their ability to manage their emotions, situations, and relationships.
There are times when talking can feel daunting, uncomfortable, embarrassing, or overwhelming. By offering dance/movement therapy, I provide an alternative medium for self-expression.
Dance/movement therapy (DMT) is a form of psychotherapy developed in the 1940s that offers an alternative for self-expression, utilizing the mind-body connection.
Therapists utilize movement characteristics such as tension, effort, space, and rhythm to inform their assessments, interventions, goals, and therapeutic relationship.
Through movement we can foster new experiences, encourage different ways of thinking, and enable authentic expression that transcends language.
